Fertility Enhancing Surgery
Fertility enhancing surgery is a type of surgery that is performed to improve a person's ability to conceive. There are different types of fertility enhancing surgery that can be performed, depending on the specific cause of infertility.
- Laparoscopic surgery: This type of surgery is used to treat conditions such as endometriosis, pelvic adhesions, and ovarian cysts. It involves making small incisions in the abdomen and using a laparoscope to view the pelvic organs. The surgeon can then remove any abnormal tissue or repair any damage that may be causing infertility.
- Hysteroscopic surgery: This type of surgery is used to treat conditions such as polyps, fibroids, and adhesions inside the uterus. It involves inserting a hysteroscope, which is a thin tube with a camera, through the cervix and into the uterus. The surgeon can then remove any abnormal tissue or repair any damage that may be causing infertility.
- Tubal surgery: This type of surgery is used to repair or reverse tubal ligation, which is a form of permanent birth control that involves cutting or blocking the fallopian tubes. It can also be used to repair damaged fallopian tubes caused by pelvic inflammatory disease or endometriosis.
- Ovarian surgery: This type of surgery is used to remove ovarian cysts, which are fluid-filled sacs that can develop on the ovary. Ovarian cysts can cause pain, bloating, and irregular periods, and they can also interfere with ovulation and fertility.
- Varicocele surgery: This type of surgery is used to correct a varicocele, which is a dilated vein in the testicle. Varicoceles can cause low sperm count and poor sperm quality. Varicocele surgery is usually done as a day case surgery and it's done under local anesthesia.
